THE NEW EPOS Mi RANGE OF SPEAKERS HAS ARRIVED!
Check out the changes:
The Epos philosophy
has been "Evolution, rather than revolution". As a result,
there are still clear threads of the previous top-award winning
Epos concepts running though their newest designs.
In the Mi series,
they have evolved the M series and made what might appear, on the
surface, to be small changes. In reality though, every single part
has been re-engineered: woofers, cabinet, tweeter, crossovers, internal
wiring, and cable terminals.
The woofers
and mid woofers have been improved through many subtle changes to
the cones, voice coils, surrounds, and chassis. The tweeters now
have a silver colored anodized dome, and the frequency response
is better extended at high frequencies - while still retaining the
Epos trademark of smoothness and complete absence of unpleasant
supersonic peaking. Crossovers have been improved with all-film
capacitors in the mid & treble sections for improved clarity
and naturalness. Wiring is still solid-core for the mid woofers
and tweeters in the two-way speakers, but for the three-way designs
the woofer sections are now wired with heavy gauge multi-strand
for even better bass control. Solid core is applied to the mids
and tweeters where its cleaner, more natural sound is best suited.
All connections, from input terminals to speaker tags, are now hand-soldered,
for superior sound quality. Input terminals are improved too.
Mi models now
have a smart black anodized solid aluminium plate holding the cable
terminals instead of the previous plastic cup, partnered with higher
specification insulated binding posts. As before, all models can
be multi-wired (biwired or triwired, depending on model). Cabinets
have been strengthened in the Mi range, with thicker front baffles
and revised bracing. This attention to detail has reduced undesired
effects of the cabinet, and contributes to improved bass definition
and overall clarity.
Cosmetically,
the Mi speakers are greatly improved from the previous M series.
The front baffle grooves and large-radius edges are gone, replaced
by small radii and smooth fronts. Their new sleek, modern, high-quality
appearance now fully in keeping with their high-end sound quality.
Cabinets are now manufactured in pairs, so that the hand-finished
real wood veneers match in grain pattern from left to right. The
M series metal grilles have been replaced by cloth covered ones.
Visually these match most homes better, and can of course be removed
to show off the attractive speaker fronts and increase listening
clarity.

"Five Stars" & "Product of the Year"
awards from Hi-Fi Choice !

"Budget Component of the Year"
by The Absolute Sound!

|
Critics
are raving about the ELS 3, including Stereophile, The Absolute
Sound, and
Hi Fi Choice magazine, who named it their 'Product of the Year'.
We
are thrilled about this little speaker! The first in a line of
lower cost speakers, the ELS-3 mini monitor maintains the high
standards expected of any product bearing the Epos name.
Designed
not only for high performance two channel operation, there is
also the award winning complete ELS
5.1 Surround Sound/Home Theater System, with four ELS 3 speakers
for front right/left and surround channels, plus the ELS 3C center
channel speaker and matching subwoofer.
The
ELS 3 incorporates a 130mm (5 1/4") woofer with polypropylene
cone with dust cap and rubber surround on a stiff die-cast aluminium
chassis for fine control and resolution throughout its frequency
range. They are magnetically shielded for use near video monitors
in home theater.
|
|
The
25mm (1") aluminium dome neodymium tweeter is an entirely new
Epos design. In
true Epos style, the ELS 3 has a minimum of crossover parts for
great clarity.
The
handsome cabinet features a high quality vinyl wrap finish allowing
the cost to be highly competitive. Finish choices match other Epos
speakers, in cherry, and black.
As
you would expect from the manufacturer of such a well-respected
brand, this new and exciting Epos ELS 3 has a performance level
in this price range that has to be heard to be believed. Just too
many good words have been written to share them all here, but for
a taste:
"...it
exceeded in performance what I've heard from its competition. The
ELS 3 had: Superior midbass definition and realism on a wide range
of program material; high-level dynamic bloom beyond what I'd reasonably
expect from a speaker of its size; and a level of detail resolution
I normally associate with speakers approaching $1000/pair."

The
M5i two-way bass reflex speaker may be the baby of the new Epos
' Mi ' series, but its performance belies its size. It is
equally at home in a two-channel or home theatre application. As
you would expect, it is fully shielded magnetically.
The
M5i includes our revised Epos 25mm (1 in.) low distortion metal
dome tweeter, designed to have smooth, clear extended treble. This
tweeter features a strong die-cast aluminium alloy face plate, moulded
surround, ferrite magnet and Ferrofluid cooling.
The
new Epos 140mm (5.5in.) mid-range woofer reproduces dynamic, natural
bass and mid-range frequencies. This robust drive unit has a die-cast
aluminium alloy chassis and phase plug, with contoured moulded polypropylene
cone. To reproduce bass cleanly and powerfully, it is loaded with
a port flared at both ends, which reduces turbulence and distortion.
The crossover is centred on 3kHz and incorporates film capacitors
in critical locations.
|
|
The
bi-wirable input panel is made from solid anodised aluminium alloy,
with sturdy high-spec terminals suited for spade lug or other types
of plugs. High-grade metal links join the terminals together and
can be removed for separate connection to each driver.
The
front and rear baffles of the cabinet are 25mm (1 in.) thick to
reduce unwanted vibration and coloration. In a choice of three pattern
matched real wood veneers, the M5i will be equally at home in a
traditional or contemporary setting. With its stylish silk cloth
grille it integrates easily with home furnishings. Offered in a
choice of two beautiful real-wood veneers - medium cherry or black.

Traditionally
the core of any Epos speaker series, the M12i is the ideal loudspeaker
for those enthusiasts who prefer a stand-mount over a floor-stand
option.
As with all speakers in the ' Mi ' range, the 12i is designed
to meet all the demands of today's two-channel and home-theatre
audio. It is equally at home with music or movies and is fully magnetically
shielded. If the M12i is to be used in a home theatre application,
the M8i centre channel and M5i, used for rears, make ideal choices.
The
M12i uses the revised Epos 25mm (1 in.) low distortion metal dome
tweeter, designed to have smooth, clear and extended treble. Featuring
a strong die-cast aluminium alloy face plate, moulded surround,
ferrite magnet and Ferrofluid cooling, it is a significant improvement
over the earlier M tweeter. The upper frequency crossover is centred
on 5kHz and the minimalistic 1st order crossover is simply a polypropylene
film capacitor.

Epos
has designed a robust new 165mm (6.5in.) mid-range woofer with die-cast
aluminium alloy chassis, phase plug and moulded polypropylene cone.
Its curved cone profile and graduated thickness were engineered
to roll off high frequencies mechanically, in a smooth fashion.
It also has very high power handling. As such, the woofer requires
no electrical crossover to reproduce dynamic, natural bass and mid-range
frequencies in this model. To reproduce bass cleanly and powerfully,
it is loaded at the rear with a port flared at both ends, which
reduces turbulence and distortion.
The
biwirable input panel is made from solid anodised aluminium alloy,
with sturdy high-spec terminals suited for spade lug or other types
of plugs. High-grade metal links join the terminals together and
can be removed for separate connection to each driver.
Equally
attractive with or without the silk cloth grilles, the M12i is offered
in a choice of two beautiful real-wood veneers - medium cherry or
black. It seamlessly wraps around the front edges of the pattern
matched cabinets. The front and rear baffles are 25mm (1")
thick to reduce unwanted vibration and coloration.

"The
Epos revealed the magic in the best recordings, without shortchanging
whatever musical values were contained by lesser recordings. The
M16i's dynamic range was particularly intoxicating... The dynamic
range envelope was accurately graded and more life-like than I've
heard from any affordable loudspeaker."
- Robert Reina, Stereophile - June 2008
The new Epos
M16i is a floor-standing 2.5-way speaker which excels in accuracy,
dynamics, imaging and poise. This speaker was designed to be equally
dynamic in a two-channel or home theatre application. The result
is a loudspeaker with deep bass, a fast dynamic sound and very high
power handling. It is equally at home playing music or movies and
is of course magnetically shielded.

The revised
Epos 25mm (1 in.) low distortion metal dome tweeter used in the
M16i is designed for smooth, clear and extended treble. It features
a strong die-cast aluminium alloy face plate, moulded surround,
ferrite magnet and Ferrofluid cooling. The crossover is centred
on 3kHz and incorporates film capacitors in critical locations.
The 140mm (5.5in.)
mid-range driver, similar to that used in the M5i, runs in a sealed
chamber, with the tweeter. It is designed to roll-off naturally
around 90Hz, with useful output below that. The woofer and mid-bass
output overlap and work effectively as one bigger unit. This reinforces
the power and dynamics of this compact speaker.
The bass driver
is similar to the midrange but has a dust cap instead of a phase
plug. It is mounted in a separate chamber in the lower section of
the cabinet and is loaded with a rear-firing port, flared at both
ends for low turbulence and minimal distortion. It is also filtered
by the crossover to limit frequencies above 100Hz.
Together, the
woofer and mid-range units handle very high power. We recommended
that the M16i should be partnered with an amplifier that is capable
of driving a four Ohm load to high levels.
Internally,
extensive bracing and 25mm (1 in.) thick front and rear baffles
have been skilfully engineered to reduce unwanted cabinet vibration
and colouration. The triwirable input panel is made from solid anodised
aluminium alloy, with sturdy high-spec terminals suited for spade
lugs or other types of plugs. High grade metal links join the terminals
together and can be removed for separate connection to each driver.
Grilles are
made of cloth, over an MDF frame, for easy integration with home
furnishings, although the M16i is equally attractive without the
grilles. A black lacquered integral plinth includes sturdy steel
inserts which take adjustable 6mm carpet spikes (included). The
plinth is removable if desired.
The M16i is
offered in a choice of two beautiful real wood veneers - medium
cherry or black, which seamlessly wrap around the front edges. Cabinets
are grain-pattern matched on left and right speakers.

The current
flagship of the ' Mi ' range of speakers, the 2.5-way M22i,
has deeper bass and higher power handling than the M16i. In designing
the M22i, the Epos engineering team designed a high performance
two channel speaker that would be equally at home in a home theatre
application.
The M22i uses
the revised Epos 25mm (1 in.) low distortion metal dome tweeter,
designed for smooth, clear and extended treble. The upper frequency
crossover is centred on 5kHz and the minimalistic 1st order crossover
is simply a polypropylene film capacitor.
Epos has designed
a robust new 165mm (6.5in.) mid-range woofer with die-cast aluminium
alloy chassis, phase plug and moulded polypropylene cone. Its curved
cone profile and graduated thickness were engineered to roll off
high frequencies mechanically, in a smooth fashion. It also has
very high power handling. As such, the woofer requires no electrical
crossover (neither high pass, nor low pass) to reproduce dynamic,
natural bass and mid-range frequencies in this model.
|
|
The mid-range
driver runs in a sealed chamber, with the tweeter. It is designed
to naturally roll-off around 80Hz, with useful output below that.
The woofer and mid-bass output overlap and work effectively as one
bigger unit. This reinforces the power and dynamics of this compact
speaker.
The 165mm (6.5in.)
bass driver is similar to the midrange but has a weighted dust cap
instead of a phase plug. It is mounted in a separate chamber in
the lower section of the cabinet and is loaded with a rear-firing
port, flared at both ends for low turbulence and minimal distortion.
It is also filtered by the crossover to limit frequencies above
100Hz.
Together, the
woofer and mid-range units handle very high powers. We recommended
that the M22i should be partnered with an amplifier that is capable
of driving a four Ohm load to high levels.
The triwirable
input panel is made from solid anodised aluminium alloy, with sturdy
high-spec terminals suited for spade lug or other types of plugs.
High grade metal links join the terminals together and can be removed
for separate connection to each driver.
Great care has
been taken with the manufacturing of the cabinets. They are grain
pattern matched for each pair. Internally, extensive bracing and
25mm (1 in.) thick front and rear baffles have been skilfully engineered
to reduce unwanted cabinet vibration and coloration. Grilles are
made of silk cloth, over an MDF frame, for easy integration with
home furnishings, although the M22i is equally attractive without
the grilles. A black lacquered integral plinth, which includes sturdy
steel inserts to take adjustable 8mm carpet spikes, completes the
package.
The M22i is
offered in a choice of two beautiful real wood veneers - medium
cherry or black, which seamlessly wrap around the front edges. Cabinets
are grain-pattern matched on left and right speakers.

Acoustic Zen Adagio Loudspeakers
The
genius of Robert Lee is at it again. An outstanding true reference
loudspeaker that's within the reach of the majority of audiophiles.
Amazing
linearity & near perfect phase alignment are just a couple
of the scientific reasons these speakers sing so incredibly. Robert
Lee's exclusive advanced underhung driver for ultra-low distortion
& round ribbon tweeter design make the Adagio's value unique
in all the world.
Mr.
Lee's custom design of underhung voice coil drivers means that
it has a very short voice coil in a large magnetic field gap.
The voice coils are very narrow and always move in a linear manner
within a magnetic field regardless of excursion - unlike traditional
long voice coil moving in a short magnetic gaps where the voice
coil moves beyond the control of the magnet. The only other speakers
in the world that combine underhung voice coils with ribbon tweeters
sell for $80,000!

Incredibly
beautiful choices of Italian finishes including prize wood veneers
at no extra cost. Photos do not do justice to the looks of these
speakers!
Perfect
as a two channel system. Also, an available matching set of surround
speakers, center channel, and subwoofer can complete a reference
multi-channel music & home theater system.
